What is Radon?

What is Radon Gas?

Radon is an invisible radioactive gas that forms during the natural breakdown of uranium in soil, rock and water. Radon enters the home by seeping up through foundations and walls. Radon can also enter your home through well water. About 7 percent of US homes are estimated to have an high radon level (4 pCi/L or more). High levels of Radon have been found in homes in East and Central Texas.

What Homes Have Radon?

All homes may have radon. While Radon is more abundant in the Panhandle and West Texas, DFW is not exempt from potentially high levels of Radon. While testing is relatively inexpensive, Radon removal can be costly, often requiring a contractor to install an appropriate method of removal. It's always wise to have your home tested for Radon levels.

What Should I Do?

Performing a home radon test is the only way to find out your home's radon levels. This process requires a test kit that must remain in the home for 3 days. The kit must then be sent to a Lab to be analyzed. Anchor Inspection Group will provide the kit, perform the test and provide shipping materials for an additional $50 fee with any home inspection.

If I have Radon Can I Fix It?

If a home has high levels of Radon, it can be removed. If your test results indicate high levels, you will be provided with a list of removal resources.
